Camelid welfare problems are largely husbandry-related and preventable with proper training and veterinary access. The alpaca fiber boom has attracted producers without animal husbandry backgrounds, increasing prevalence of neglect and poor practice. Welfare certification for luxury alpaca products is in its infancy but growing.
