Humidity miscalibration is a pervasive cause of preventable suffering in companion reptiles. Unlike temperature, which keepers often monitor carefully, humidity is frequently guessed or ignored. The welfare consequences accumulate gradually: chronic dehydration, repeated shedding problems, skin infections, and eventually respiratory disease can develop over months before becoming clinically apparent. Providing species-accurate humidity is a fundamental husbandry requirement, not an optional enhancement.
