Livestock guardian dogs occupy a unique welfare position: they provide genuine predator protection benefits that reduce lethal wildlife control, but their own welfare is often secondary. Dogs kept in isolated working conditions without adequate veterinary care, socialization, and health monitoring suffer individually even while providing ecosystem benefits. Their welfare deserves the same attention as their working function.
