Animal welfare technology offers genuine transformative potential for welfare monitoring at scales previously impossible. The ability to continuously monitor behavioral welfare indicators across an entire herd, flock, or sea pen — rather than sampling a fraction of animals periodically — enables earlier intervention, more targeted treatment, and objective welfare data for certification purposes. However, technology is a tool, not a solution: welfare data must be acted upon by motivated management, and technology cannot substitute for fundamental improvements in housing, social grouping, or farming practices.
