Anxiety in dogs causes genuine suffering, making the evidence base for interventions critically important for welfare. Products with weak evidence may provide false reassurance to owners who are failing to address their dog's anxiety adequately. Anxiety wraps may provide modest benefit for some dogs in some contexts — they are safe and worth trying — but should never substitute for behavior modification and veterinary assessment of significant anxiety. Pheromone products have somewhat better evidence for specific anxiety contexts. For moderate to severe anxiety — thunderstorm phobia, separation anxiety, veterinary fear — pharmaceutical support has substantially stronger evidence and should be the foundation of a management plan, with other tools as adjuncts.
