Rabbits are the third most commonly kept pet in many countries yet are frequently housed in conditions that cause chronic suffering.
Pet rabbit welfare is one of the most underrecognized animal welfare crises in companion animal keeping. Millions of rabbits spend their lives in small hutches, alone, with no opportunity for natural behaviors like running, jumping, digging, and socializing. This causes chronic stress, obesity, muscle wastage, and psychological distress. Educational campaigns have slowly improved awareness but many rabbits continue to suffer in conditions that would be unacceptable for dogs or cats.
