Welfare Considerations

The tragedy is that many reptile owners do not understand that UV-B bulbs must be replaced on a schedule even when they still visibly light up, as UV-B output deteriorates before visible spectrum output. A reptile kept for years under an outdated bulb may develop metabolic bone disease while its owner genuinely believes its lighting is adequate. Providing appropriate UV-B is not optional enrichment for reptiles — it is a fundamental physiological requirement.
