Water access for bathing and natural behaviour is a fundamental welfare need of ducks that is denied in most commercial duck production systems, representing a significant welfare problem.

The welfare cost is not marginal — it is the frustration of one of the most strongly motivated behaviours in the species' behavioural repertoire.

Advocate for regulatory minimum standards for open water access for commercially farmed ducks.
If keeping domestic ducks, provide adequate bathing water — at minimum a container large enough to submerge their heads.
