Individual wolves in human-dominated landscapes face constant conflict risks, vehicle mortality, and the physiological stress of navigating unfamiliar territory. Effective reintroduction welfare requires not just releasing wolves but managing the human landscape around them — reducing illegal killing, improving driver awareness, and providing livestock protection programmes that reduce conflict and the lethal responses it triggers.
