Welfare Considerations

Untreated BRD causes painful pneumonia and significant mortality. Heat stress in summer feedlots without shade causes acute suffering and death. Evidence-based improvements include low-stress handling practices, metaphylaxis protocols for high-risk arrival groups, shade provision, and prompt identification and treatment of sick animals.
