The prolonged site-fidelity of swifts means that each lost site represents decades of potential breeding opportunity removed. Building design that incorporates swift bricks into new development and renovation projects provides the nest site infrastructure that swifts cannot create themselves, directly improving breeding success.

What You Can Do

Install swift boxes or swift bricks on suitable buildings at least three metres above ground
Report swift colonies to the RSPB and local swift groups to enable protection during renovation

Play swift call recordings near new nest boxes from May to August to attract scouts to new sites
