Urban foxes are widely misunderstood and subject to ineffective and inhumane control methods. Evidence-based approaches to human-fox conflict benefit both human communities and fox welfare.
Urban foxes are often subjected to inhumane control methods including leg-hold trapping, snaring and poisoning despite evidence these methods do not reduce local populations. Individual foxes killed by these methods suffer significantly. Education about coexistence, securing attractants and habitat modification achieve better outcomes for both human communities and fox welfare.
