Hypoglycaemia — dangerously low blood sugar — is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition particularly common in toy breed puppies.
Hypoglycaemic episodes are frightening and physically dangerous for small dogs. Repeated or severe episodes can cause neurological damage. Owners of toy breeds must be educated about this risk before bringing a puppy home, as the condition can deteriorate very rapidly and requires immediate intervention.
