Elbow hygromas are fluid-filled swellings in large dogs that develop over bony pressure points and cause discomfort requiring management.
Elbow hygromas progress silently and are often noticed only once they have become large or infected. Infected hygromas are very painful and can become chronic wounds. The condition is almost entirely preventable with appropriate bedding, making it a welfare issue that falls clearly within owner responsibility.
