Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is a common and painful condition in cats causing urinary discomfort and risk of life-threatening urethral obstruction.
FLUTD causes intense pain and distress. Cats with cystitis strain repeatedly in the litter box, often producing only drops of bloody urine. Urethral obstruction escalates from pain to a medical emergency within hours. The strong association with stress means that FLUTD is often a signal that the cat's environment needs improvement, not just that medication is required.
