Recognising the relationship between stress and illness in cats is essential for addressing root causes rather than only treating clinical signs.
The link between feline stress and illness is well established but underutilised in clinical practice. Cats presenting with FLUTD, IBD, or recurrent respiratory disease may have an underlying environmental stress driver that will perpetuate disease if unaddressed. Veterinarians and owners who treat only the physical presentation without investigating the environmental context miss an important opportunity to improve long-term welfare.
