Feline obesity has reached epidemic proportions with over half of cats overweight, causing serious health impacts and significantly reducing quality of life.
Obese cats suffer a significantly reduced quality of life that owners frequently fail to recognise because the changes are gradual. A cat too heavy to groom its lower back experiences chronic skin problems. A cat too heavy to jump cannot reach favourite resting spots and may develop depression from restricted environment. The joint pain of obesity-associated arthritis is constant and largely silent. Obese cats have shorter lifespans and experience the complications of obesity including diabetes and urinary disease. Many owners perceive overweight cats as happy and well-fed, when in fact excess weight is causing daily suffering.
