Idiopathic vestibular syndrome in dogs causes sudden severe dizziness that is frightening for the animal and owner but often resolves on its own within weeks.
The sudden onset of vestibular syndrome is disorienting and frightening for affected dogs. The inability to walk or stand without falling causes distress and confusion. Nausea from the vertigo may make dogs reluctant to eat or drink. However, because most cases resolve completely, prognosis is excellent with supportive care. Anti-nausea medication can significantly improve comfort during the acute phase.
