Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs over 10 years, and welfare-focused pain management is central to quality cancer care.
Dogs with cancer experience pain that is often underrecognized and undertreated. Unlike humans, dogs cannot verbalize pain and rely on owner and veterinarian vigilance. Multimodal analgesia combining different drug classes provides better pain control than single-drug approaches. Quality of life assessments should guide all treatment decisions.
