Current wolverine trapping regulations in North America are inadequate to protect a species that is also highly vulnerable to climate change.
Wolverines in leg-hold traps experience prolonged pain, fear, and exposure before being checked. The slow reproductive rate of wolverines means each individual is demographically significant. Combined with climate vulnerability, trapping mortality adds additional pressure to a species already at risk. Welfare improvements and reduced harvest pressure are both needed.
