Food system justice addresses the connections between animal welfare, worker welfare, environmental justice, and food access. A just food system must address all of these dimensions simultaneously.
Animal welfare and food system justice are deeply connected. The same production model that harms animals often harms the workers who process them and the communities near production facilities. Higher-welfare systems tend to be better for workers and environments as well as animals. A food system justice framework that integrates animal welfare rather than treating it as separate or secondary produces more holistic and sustainable improvements.
