Late-stage DM dogs are at high risk for pressure sores, urinary tract infections, and aspiration pneumonia. Intensive nursing care including turning schedules, bladder expression, and skin checks is required. While many dogs remain mentally alert and engaged until late stages, caregivers should discuss quality-of-life thresholds with their vet proactively.
