Ehrlichiosis is a serious tick-borne bacterial disease in dogs causing multi-systemic illness and, in chronic cases, life-threatening bone marrow failure.
Acute ehrlichiosis causes significant systemic illness with fever, lethargy, and pain. Chronic disease with bone marrow suppression causes spontaneous bleeding and severe immune compromise, causing progressive deterioration. The tick vector's ability to infest homes and kennels means infection can recur in endemic areas. Tick prevention and rapid treatment of acute illness prevents progression to devastating chronic disease.
