Heat stroke kills dogs quickly and causes lasting organ damage in survivors; it is almost entirely preventable through awareness and simple precautions.

Survivors often suffer lasting kidney, liver, and neurological damage. The tragedy is that virtually every case is preventable. Public education about the car danger and provision of shade and water during exercise prevents enormous suffering.
