The quality of rescue organizations varies enormously; understanding what makes a responsible rescue protects adopter families and ensures dogs receive appropriate care before rehoming.
Dogs held in poor rescue conditions experience overcrowding, disease, and behavioral deterioration that the rescue label obscures. 'Rescue' does not automatically mean welfare - some rescues inadvertently cause significant harm through hoarding, inadequate medical care, and perpetual rehoming cycles. Supporting well-run rescues and avoiding problematic ones protects both dogs and adopters.
