Wolverines are wide-ranging carnivores sensitive to climate change and subject to trapping across their range; individual welfare and population conservation are both threatened.
Wolverines caught in foothold traps or snares experience significant pain and distress - animals capable of traveling huge distances can remain trapped for days without a check. The combination of climate change reducing suitable habitat and trapping removing individuals from already vulnerable populations creates a dual threat to both population viability and individual welfare. Humane trapping standards and reduced trapping pressure are both warranted.
