Tendon injuries are among the most common and career-ending conditions in sport horses, and rehabilitation technology has advanced significantly in recent decades.
Tendon injuries cause significant acute pain followed by prolonged discomfort during healing. Horses face welfare risks from both excessive rest (stiffness, behavioral frustration) and premature return to work (re-injury). Pain management during acute phases requires NSAIDs and sometimes regional nerve blocks. The psychological welfare of stall-confined horses must be addressed through enrichment, social contact, and controlled hand-walking. Technology that tracks healing progress allows more evidence-based decisions about when to progress rehabilitation.
