Pressure-based anxiety interventions including thundershirts show variable but potentially useful welfare benefits for anxiety-prone dogs.
Pressure-based anxiety interventions represent one of the few behavioral welfare tools that pet owners can apply immediately during acute anxiety events without prior training investment. The evidence base while mixed suggests meaningful benefit in a proportion of dogs, with individual variation in response making empirical trial reasonable. The welfare benefit of any reduction in anxiety during storms, fireworks, or travel events is real even if modest for individual animals who respond. Pressure wraps should not replace comprehensive anxiety management including behavioral modification and pharmacological support for moderate to severe cases, but can contribute meaningfully to a multi-modal welfare approach.
