Pressure wraps and anxiety vests are widely used for canine anxiety but evidence for their effectiveness varies by context, requiring integration with comprehensive behavioral management.
Pressure wraps offer a non-pharmacological anxiety intervention that some dogs find genuinely calming. For dogs showing mild to moderate anxiety, wraps can reduce physiological stress indicators and allow the dog to engage in normal behavior during triggers. However, for dogs in severe panic, a wrap alone provides insufficient welfare benefit and should not be used instead of appropriate anxiolytic medication. The welfare value of wraps is real for appropriate cases but limited by common over-reliance on them as the sole intervention.
