Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) was once a universally fatal disease, but new antiviral treatments have transformed it into a manageable condition.
The development of effective FIP antivirals represents one of the most significant recent advances in feline welfare. Cats previously condemned to a painful, rapid death can now be cured and live normal healthy lives. The welfare imperative is to make these treatments accessible - cost remains a significant barrier, and regulatory variation creates access inequities between countries. Supporting FIP treatment access programs and advocacy for drug licensing is a direct welfare contribution.
