Welfare Considerations

The welfare impact of career choices in animal welfare varies enormously. A vet who treats 1000 animals per year affects far fewer animals than a policy analyst whose work changes regulations affecting millions. This is not to diminish veterinary welfare contributions - they are essential - but to recognize that career choice is an important lever for welfare impact. Strategic career selection and skill development in highest-impact areas amplifies individual contribution to reducing animal suffering.
