Feline vestibular disease causes sudden, dramatic disorientation that is frightening for cats and owners but typically resolves with supportive care.
Acute vestibular disease causes significant distress - affected cats are completely disoriented, cannot balance, and show signs consistent with extreme dizziness. The sudden onset from an apparently normal state is alarming. Most cases of idiopathic vestibular disease resolve remarkably quickly, and the welfare priority is supportive care that reduces distress during the acute phase: anti-nausea medication, quiet dark environment, and preventing injury from falling. Differentiation from central vestibular disease is essential as the latter has a different prognosis.
