Agricultural land management practices including plowing, harrowing, and flooding of field margins destroy rabbit warrens, killing kits and disrupting social structures with little regulation or mitigation.
Young rabbit kits are born hairless and entirely dependent on the warren environment for warmth and protection. Warren destruction during the breeding season causes immediate death of kits through crushing, hypothermia, or predation. Adult rabbits that survive lose their home range and social network, increasing vulnerability to predation. The scale of warren loss through routine agricultural operations is largely invisible and unregulated.
