Pressure wraps and thundershirts have become widely used for noise-phobic and anxious dogs, and a growing body of evidence helps clarify when and for whom these interventions are most effective.
Pressure wrap welfare evidence supports their use as one tool in a multi-modal anxiety management approach rather than as a standalone solution. Dogs with severe noise phobia or generalized anxiety typically require more comprehensive intervention including behavior modification, environmental management, and often pharmacological support. Pressure wraps can provide meaningful relief for mild to moderate anxiety and may help during behavior modification programs by reducing the intensity of fear responses. Individual variation in response is significant - trying a wrap is low-risk and may benefit the individual dog, but owners should not rely on it as the sole intervention for significant anxiety.
