Effective communication of animal welfare science to farmers is critical for translating research into on-farm practice improvement.
The gap between animal welfare science and farm practice is substantially a communication and engagement challenge. Researchers and advocates who fail to engage with farmers' economic realities, knowledge traditions and identity risks will fail to create change. Evidence-based, farmer-centred communication that demonstrates practical and economic benefits of welfare improvements is the most effective path to real on-farm change.
