Identifying and funding the highest-priority welfare science questions accelerates progress toward better outcomes for the largest numbers of animals.
Welfare science research prioritisation determines which animals benefit from evidence-based welfare improvements and how fast. Current funding patterns underinvest in the welfare of numerically dominant animals including fish, insects, and wild animals. Redirecting a portion of welfare research funding toward highest-impact, most underserved welfare questions would create enormous welfare benefit. Supporting organisations that identify and fund high-priority welfare research is one of the most leveraged welfare interventions available.
