Welfare considerations in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) farming across Mediterranean production systems.
Sea bass welfare has been relatively neglected compared to Atlantic salmon despite similar production volumes. Their high activity levels, territorial nature, and sensitivity to handling mean that welfare challenges in intensive production systems are significant. Applying lessons from salmon welfare science to sea bass production could deliver substantial welfare improvements at scale.
