Global Farm Animal Welfare Progress: 2026 Review and Future Priorities

Assessing progress in farm animal welfare globally and identifying the most important priorities for the next decade of welfare improvement.

Key Facts

Welfare Considerations

Farm animal welfare has seen meaningful progress in the past decade but remains far from adequate at global scale. Concentrated improvements in Europe and North America have not translated to equivalent progress in major producing countries in Asia and Latin America where billions of animals are raised under minimal welfare standards. The growing recognition of fish welfare is expanding the scope of concern but is not yet matched by proportionate regulatory or industry action. Sustaining momentum requires continued advocacy, consumer pressure, corporate commitments, and supportive policy frameworks - and ensuring progress is not concentrated in wealthy markets alone.
