Target training, clicker training, and station training build a rich communication vocabulary
Horses trained with positive reinforcement show lower cortisol and higher approach behaviour
Station training allows multiple horses to be managed safely with positive reinforcement
Advanced training can facilitate voluntary blood sampling, hoof care, and farriery

Welfare Considerations

Positive reinforcement training transforms horses' experience of human interaction from potentially aversive to reliably rewarding, improving welfare across all management contexts.
