Navicular disease (palmar foot pain syndrome) is a chronic degenerative condition causing significant lameness and welfare compromise in sport and pleasure horses.
Navicular syndrome causes chronic pain significantly affecting quality of life in affected horses. Pain is frequently undertreated due to the chronic nature and variable presentation. A multimodal approach combining corrective farriery, analgesia, and targeted therapy provides better welfare outcomes than single-modality treatment.
