Tilapia is one of the most farmed fish globally, raised at extremely high densities in conditions that cause chronic stress, disease, and welfare compromise at massive scale.
Tilapia welfare is rarely considered despite involving hundreds of billions of individual fish. High stocking densities cause territorial competition, fin damage, and immune suppression. Water quality deterioration in poorly managed systems causes chronic physiological stress. The combination of high density, aggressive species behavior, and inadequate management creates conditions of persistent suffering for enormous numbers of animals.
