Wolverines are wide-ranging solitary mustelids whose captive welfare is severely challenged by space constraints that prevent natural ranging behavior.
Wolverine welfare in typical zoo settings is very difficult to achieve. Their extraordinary ranging need cannot be met in standard zoo enclosures, making stereotypic pacing almost inevitable. The ethics of keeping this species in traditional zoo settings deserves critical evaluation.
