Buoyancy disorders in captive and rehabilitating sea turtles impair diving ability and require specific tank design and medical management.
Sea turtles with buoyancy disorders cannot express normal diving behavior and may be trapped at the water surface. This causes frustration and predator vulnerability while limiting feeding. Addressing buoyancy is a welfare priority in turtle rehabilitation.
