Tapirs are semi-aquatic mammals that require water access for thermoregulation, enrichment, and natural behaviour expression.
Tapirs without adequate water access experience thermal discomfort and cannot express natural aquatic behaviours. Water provision is a welfare essential, not an optional enrichment. Ensuring sufficient depth for swimming and submersion meets both thermoregulatory and behavioural welfare needs.
