Insect farming for food and feed is growing - environmental conditions during rearing significantly affect welfare outcomes.
Insect farming welfare is an area of genuine scientific uncertainty. If insects have the capacity for suffering - which cannot currently be ruled out - then environmental conditions during rearing and humane slaughter methods matter. Applying precautionary welfare standards costs little and may prevent significant suffering if insects are found to be sentient.
