Cheetahs have the largest natural home ranges of any zoo felid and their space and activity needs present significant management challenges.
Cheetah welfare in captivity is strongly constrained by space requirements. Even large zoo enclosures cannot replicate the natural activity budgets of wild cheetahs. Maximising enrichment, providing running tracks or lure coursing activities, and monitoring individual welfare rigorously are essential compensatory strategies.
