Cosmetics testing alternatives are the most advanced and complete replacement success story in the alternatives field. For most safety endpoints — skin irritation, sensitization, eye irritation — validated non-animal methods with superior human relevance exist and are OECD-accepted. The scientific case for cosmetics animal testing is essentially eliminated. The welfare case for eliminating it entirely globally is strong, achievable, and requires political and commercial pressure on holdout jurisdictions rather than further scientific development.
