Ducks are aquatic birds whose welfare is severely compromised when water access is restricted. Access to open water for bathing and head immersion is a key welfare need.
Water deprivation in farmed ducks causes eye infections, feather quality problems and profound frustration of natural behaviour. Providing even basic open water bathing access dramatically improves duck welfare at modest additional cost.
