Bearded dragons are popular reptile pets whose welfare depends critically on UV-B provision, thermal gradients, and appropriate diet. Metabolic bone disease from inadequate UV-B is a widespread welfare problem.
Bearded dragon welfare requires daily UV-B exposure from appropriate bulbs (UVI 3-4 in basking zone), thermal gradients from basking zone to cool end, correct diet by age, and regular health monitoring. UV-B bulb replacement every 6 months prevents metabolic bone disease regardless of visible light output.
