Remote sensing, AI image recognition and wearable sensors offer new possibilities for welfare monitoring at scale that human inspection alone cannot achieve.
Technology enables continuous welfare monitoring that replaces or supplements periodic human inspection. Early detection of developing welfare problems through automated systems enables faster intervention. However, technology must be validated against welfare outcomes and cannot replace skilled stockperson judgement.
